The heart of OTT apps will always remain the video player. Whether you’re dealing with VOD or Live video content, this is the one part you need to have nailed down. Users will judge you harshly if video starts slow, buffers a lot or has a terrible quality. And then we haven’t even touched upon the user interface or some of the things that happen under the hood. So where do you start and what should you consider when looking to develop or use a video player?

My player should do A and B and C

Step one in your search for a video player (or multiple video players)…

Sports are cool. They often keep you healthy, allow you to interact with cool people (until Covid happend, at least), and in general are just fun to play. But don’t you equally enjoy watching Sports? Many people do, so how do you get them to use your Sports App in a good way? How do you get them to interact more, share more, and watch more in general? In this blog I’ve taken the opportunity to look at some cool ways of increasing all that, and more.

I’m a big fan of YouTube, and spend some of my spare time uploading videos for fun. They are nothing fancy en certainly don’t attract a big audience. Most videos really just get anywhere between 5 and 100 views. For one specific video, that has changed since a few days, for no apparent reason. The video was uploaded almost two years ago and had gained no significant traffic whatsoever. That all changed when the fire nation attacked. Sorry, no, this is not the series Avatar. What I meant to say is: that all changed when YouTube decided to recommend my…

A question we continue to ask ourselves during software development, how much code should we actually write ourselves? With such an abundance of frameworks, libraries and components available on Github and the likes; why would you spend the time and effort into writing what others have already done (and possibly better)? A fair question to ask, and a question with a different answer depending on the situation you find yourself in. In this blog we discuss some of the reasonings behind writing the code yourself, and making heavy use of code written by others.

If you’ve been contemplating what to build your next side-project in, like I have, it can feel like stepping into a mine-field not knowing what might come with your next step. 2021 is shaping up to be yet another year where frontend development doesn’t slow down one single bit. Many developments have started last year of course, but they are well on their way to reaching a climax in the year ahead. What can we expect from the likes of Vue, Svelte and React?

Time flies when you’re in lockdown, doesn’t it? It feels like just yesterday when we were still able to have physical contact and enjoy the amazing technology on show at CES. So let’s dive straight into the latest and greatest of TV announcements that were made at CES 2021.

Goliath versus Goliath

Yes, I am fully aware that this is supposed to say ‘David versus Goliath’. However, in the world of television there really are two Goliaths that usually dominate: Samsung and LG. With both of these technology…

During these Corona Virus times, we’ve seen a huge uptake in subscribers and content watched for OTT apps. About two weeks ago, Netflix announced it would be dropping support for their applications on older Samsung and Vizio SmartTVs. People with a Samsung from 2010 or 2011, will no longer be able to stream Netflix on their device. Vizio devices go even further, and will already see devices from as late as 2014 no longer have a Netflix app.

The outcry following Netflix’s announcement, as well as the lack in platform-years that are supported by Disney+, has led many people to question whether and for how long they can still use their own TV to watch their favourite Netflix…
